Roseann Bennett Shares The Work That Goes Into Starting A Nonprofit
Roseann Bennett is a New Jersey-based licensed therapist who specializes in marital and family therapy. She earned her EdS in counseling at Seton Hall University. She now has 11 years of experience in her career and has helped many adolescents who need therapy. In addition to seeing patients, Roseann Bennett is also the executive director of her nonprofit organization, managing its day to day operations.
In August 2009, she established a nonprofit called the Center for Assessment and Treatment ( “The Center”) along with her husband, a doctor. The Center provides quality mental health services to anyone who needs it. They will perform a comprehensive assessment and then provide psychotherapy services. The will also prescribe medication when appropriate.
In addition to seeing patients, Roseann Bennett is also the executive director of her nonprofit, managing its day to day operations.

Anything that would bleed cash, like fancy letterhead, was out the window. Roseann Bennett says they picked up their first clients by going to meetings out in the community to let people know who they were and what their organization was all about. They also kept their offices open six days a week, 9 am to 8 pm each day.
Bennett says one of the lessons she learned about starting a nonprofit is that you better be in love with what you do. It exacts very long hours and really does take a lot of work to make a nonprofit sustainable, including finding sources of funding.
